Whilst our friends from Upper Coopers Creek Public School were visiting us yesterday, the students participated in several STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) challenges.
K/1/2 students had an awesome time constructing and launching a rocket ship as part of their STEM challenge. Great colouring and cutting skills were required from our little engineers to build their rocket ships and, the effect of forces was investigated to learn the best way to launch their rocket ships.
An awesome STEM challenge was presented to the Year 3 and 4 students: Build a bridge strong enough to hold an item weighting 250 grams using only 10 pieces of A4 paper, 4 paper straws, 2 metres of sticky tape and 2 metres of string.
Lots of brainstorming, planning, drawing, collaborating, constructing and testing occurred. The students were able to construct bridges that were able to hold the weights of 1+ kilograms! Using only papers and sticky tape! AMAZING!
