What is Bush School?

Our Rosebank Bush School is a program of outdoor and environmental education with specific curriculum links, but it also provides children with opportunities to enjoy Nature play, practise mindfulness and just 'be' in the natural environment.

Our Bush School was developed to promote student wellbeing, so that they could be happy outdoors while learning new skills and learning to live more harmoniously with Nature.

Research shows that students' academic learning can be enriched by participation in outdoor education. Our program started this year, when we drafted the following guiding principles:

At Bush School:

  • Children will learn about, with and from Nature
  • Children will learn things they are unlikely to learn, or will not learn as well, in a regular classroom
  • Children will learn skills that are genuinely useful in the Bush
  • Children will have opportunities to play and be free
  • Children will practise listening, watching, smelling and being to/in the Bush…and be still
  • Children will be mentored into different ways of being Learning will be aligned to NSW syllabuses

After 20 weeks of learning on the Reserve, our children tell us that Bush School is very valuable and they want it to continue next year.

If you have questions about our Bush School, and how it is unique to our school context, please call our school on 6688 2126.
